We have teamed up with the Outdoor Partnership in Cumbria to run a number of free walking events. These events are specifically aimed at introducing residents of Copeland & Allerdale to our incredible green spaces.
These events include minibus transportation to and from local pick-up points, starting at Whitehaven Library at 10.00am. Details of all pick-up points, timings, and what to wear / fetch will be included in an information pack that is sent out after booking confirmation.
High Rigg is a rather unique fell in the Lake District, rising up above the northern edge of Thirlmere. Although named High Rigg the fell stands at a modest 357m and is only high in comparison to the nearby Low Rigg. An undulating ridge walk there are fine views of the Helvellyn and Skiddaw ranges and into the valleys of Thirlmere and St John’s in the Vale with a return route back through the valley. It stands proud as a perfect geographical example of a Fell in miniature with the giants of the Helvellyn range, Blencathra and High Seat rising above on all sides.
The walk itself will begin from Legburthwaite car park near the northern edge of Thirlmere, we will start to make our way up the ridge past crags and tarns. From the summit we will head down to St Johns church and then traverse round the east side of High Rigg and follow St Johns Beck back towards the car park.
Further details of this walk can be found on our JustGo platform.
