Everyone at Blackdog Outdoors would like to say a massive thanks to Rachel Griffin who recently swam, cycled and walked an epic 58km route to raise £1500 for us.
Here’s what Rachel had to say:
“After losing three people I knew to suicide this year, I realised that in my extended group of family of friends, I knew 13 people to have taken their own lives.
I really wanted to try to raise awareness of mental health and suicide and hoped to raise some funds through people’s kind donations for some great charities. I set the challenge to swim, bike and walk my local area.
Swim Llyn Padarn – 3km
Bike Llanberis pass – 11km with 346 metres ascent.
Walk the Welsh 15 peaks – 44km with nearly 4000meters of ascent.
My friend Emma Warren – who also knew our friends – wanted to do it with me, as this cause was close to her heart.
We set out at 4.40am on Thursday 10th September in the dark with our support boats and swam Llyn Padarn, we were met at the end of the lake with warm drinks and our bike kit we got changed and pedaled up the pass.
We had a quick change again here to pick up walking stuff and headed off up Crib Goch and the Snowdon section.
We were met in each valley by friends to replenish supplies.
A couple of friends walked with us for the Glyderau section and my partner and a friend walked the Carneddau section.
We reached the top of Foel fras the last summit at 12am, 19hrs 20 mins after we’d begun.
Feeling elated but tired we cracked on with the last 1hr 40mins back to the car”.
Rachel and Emma – we’re seriously impressed! That’s some serious ground you covered. You look like you had a blast, too. Thank you so much!
We love that so many people were involved in getting this adventure off the ground – sounds like you had a great support crew and that’s testament to the power of the outdoors and the shared understanding we all have of its impact and importance.
As a fully registered, non-profit charity, Blackdog Outdoors put 100% of our funds back into our events. The money raised here will go towards providing equipment and support for our attendees. If you would like to raise some funds for our mission you can find our PayPal button, here.
