The words Gill and Ghyll, derived from the old Norse term ‘Gil‘, are defined in the Oxford dictionary as a deep, forested ravine and a narrow mountain torrent, respectively. Ghylls provide an excellent opportunity for exploration and adventure. Ghyll scrambling entails ascending or descending a mountain stream, allowing us to jump into pools of water, climb waterfalls, and scramble over rocks. These sessions are aimed at beginners and are perfect for first timers.
Stoneycroft Ghyll offers an exciting ‘down river’ adventure. Once you’re suited up in wetsuits and buoyancy aids, it’s a 20-minute uphill walk to the starting point. We don’t waste any time getting you wet and pumped up for the experience. Stoneycroft Ghyll features a variety of slides, pools, scrambles, and jumps suitable for all skill levels. As you gain confidence, you can challenge yourself with more difficult obstacles. However, everything is optional, so you can choose to do only what you feel comfortable with. This makes it a great activity for people of all ages and abilities.
