The Arrochar Alps are a well-known and well-loved set of hills in the West of Scotland. The area became popular at first in the 1890s. Later in the 1930’s a more radical group of climbers, often workers and unemployed people from the shipyards and factories of Glasgow, came by bike, foot, bus, and train to climb the peaks and hone their climbing skills on the many rock faces.

The Cobbler – also known as Ben Arthur – has the most distinctive outline of any mountain in the Southern Highlands and makes a fantastic shorter hill walk. The initial approach is a series of steep zigzags to start, but soon eases off to reveal the dramatic skyline and summit view.
