Located in the Northwest highlands near the town of Fort William and part of the Grampian mountain range, Ben Nevis is a popular trek that attracts around 125,000 hikers annually. This renowned mountain was once an active volcano that erupted and collapsed inwards on itself millions of years ago. The summit bears evidence of the explosion in the form of light-coloured granite. The name Ben Nevis has two possible translations from Gaelic, signifying either the “mountain with its head in the clouds” or “the venomous mountain”
We begin our hike making our way across the river Nevis, the track ascents quickly offering stunning views across the surrounding Mamore’s and the Glen. Our team will be taking the popular “pony track” which while not an easy stroll is well maintained.
