Sedbergh, located in the Yorkshire Dales, is only 10 minutes away from the M6, yet it is a tranquil and serene town surrounded by breathtaking scenery offering walks suitable for all levels of interest and ability. Known as England’s ‘book town’, Sedbergh boasts a fascinating history. Although currently situated in Cumbria, it was previously part of Yorkshire and even claimed by Scotland at one point in time. This unspoiled and peaceful town is a hidden gem for adventurers seeking new experiences.

Join us for a stunning circular walk that offers breathtaking views of the valley, England’s highest waterfall, and two of the ‘Dales 30’ mountains that are over 2000ft in the Yorkshire Dales. The walk starts with a peaceful stroll along the river Rawthey in a picturesque valley. Then, we’ll follow a well-maintained track that leads us to a glacial valley where a beautiful waterfall cascades down a total of 650ft. A stone stepped path will take us up alongside the waterfall to reach the wide plateau, which is the highest point on the Howgills – The Calf. From there, we’ll walk on a grassy broad ridge over the Howgills, which is known as ‘The Sleeping Elephants’ by Wainwright. The ridge offers magnificent views of the Lakeland fells, the Yorkshire three peaks, and Morecombe Bay. You might even spot some fell ponies during the walk. We’ll end the walk in Sedbergh.
