Manaton is a peaceful village in Dartmoor National Park. The route offers a mix of moorland, fields, woodlands and incorporates several iconic Dartmoor landmarks including Bowerman’s Nose (seen in the picture), Hound Tor and the site of a 13th century abandoned village to name a few.
Starting from the Manaton Village car park this will be a circular walk. Initially we will ascend onto moorland, up to Bowerman’s Nose. From there we head over to Hound Tor, taking in the views (including the vista across to Haytor Rocks) and afterwards meandering down to the medieval settlements. We follow the footpath down amongst the tree towards a small footbridge and gentle stream. After summiting Black Hill we have a nice long descent into Houndtor Wood; thereafter a final climb up to Manaton where a well earnt beverage can be had in the Kestor Inn.
