Setting off from the A57 Snakepass our circular walk will take us to Higher Shelf Stones and onto the wreckage of ‘Over Exposed’ which was a Boeing RB-29A Superfortress that had been modified for reconnaissance. The aircraft crashed at Higher Shelf Stones on 3 November 1948. The aircraft was on a routine daytime flight with two other aircraft, leaving RAF Scampton near Lincoln at about 10:15 and heading to the US Air Force base at Burtonwood near Warrington.
If the weather is favourable, we will then continue on to the high point of Bleaklow Head before returning to our vehicles.
